Pondering how to get away from the Boston weather in January for a week and a half presents many options. I was keen to get back to Central America, it having been well over 5 years since my last visit there (to Costa Rica). Belize is a compact yet rugged country with a great mix of tiny islands in the Caribbean, scuba diving, and jungle escapism. To boot, the Mayan ruins of Tikal are a stone's throw from the border with Guatemala, making for a great side trip.
