Trekking in the Cordillera Real

The view out over the Andes during a rest break while trekking. For the trek we hired a guide, Mario, and two mules to carry all of our equipment and food. In this region you need a guide just to find the trails, and because he won't carry his own gear you need mules or porters anyway. In the foreground here in Mario's wife, who walked up with us on the first day from Sorata to Lakathiya. Like most women in the area she dresses in the traditional skirts and bowler hat. Despite the load on her back she easily outwalked us on these steep trails.
