Luang Prabang

The beautiful facade of Wat Khili in Luang Prabang. From Bangkok it is a short (2 hour or so) flight to Luang Prabang, situated in the center of Laos. Luang Prabang used to be the seat of a tiny kingdom for hundreds of years, and today boasts many well-preserved (and active) temples. Saffron-robed monks wander the streets and often hang out near the entrances to the wats to practice their English with foreigners. We were surprised at how friendly and open the people were here, despite the large influx of tourists in the last few years.
