Baiau Village
After two days of hard travel, we made it to Baiau and were welcomed immediately as family. No sooner had we arrived than Simon's mother appears, crying with happiness, and puts her arms around Amy and I, wailing. Baiau consists of a half dozen or so "bush houses" (as seen in the background), no electricity or running water, no TV or radio. Several families live here and they grow nearly all of their food -- especially kaukau (sweet potato). They keep a number of pigs and a goat or two.
