Baiau Village

Amy and Veronica carrying very heavy loads of sweet potato back from the gardens. In traditional highlands villages, the women do nearly all of the work of growing and harvesting the food, washing, and cooking (not to mention raising the children and pigs, etc.). From what we could tell, men are mostly responsible for building the houses and shooting the shit with their friends, although this may have been an unbalanced view. Amy was great about pitching in and giving Vero a hand. Whenever I tried to help, I was usually kept from doing so, being told "that is a job for the women". OK then!
