PlanetLab

Harvard is a member of PlanetLab. The process for creating a new PlanetLab account and an associated project is:

  1. Register here for a new account. When registering, select "Harvard University" as your site.
  2. E-mail the current Harvard site administrator, Geoffrey Mainland, to let him know you've applied for an account (we get a lot of spam requests from people hping to slip an account request past us). Please provide your name, the name of the faculty member with whom you are working, a name for your project's slice, starting with "harvard_", a short description of your project, and a URL for your project's web site.
  3. You will receive an e-mail when your account has been approved. The site admin has other responsibilities, so please be prepared to wait at least 24 hours for your account to be approved.
  4. Read the docs on the PlanetLab site!

Security Incidents

All PlanetLab incident reports should be handled per the instructions at http://www.planet-lab.org/support. There's not much we can do here locally other than turn the machine on and off. A list of recent PlanetLab security notices can be found here: http://www.planet-lab.org/security_notice
