wherever you go, there you are

Last year I had the incredible opportunity of traveling for almost 9 months largely on someone else's dollar.

I discovered in April 2001 that through the generosity of Dr. Maurice Pechet, an SCR member at Lowell House I was going to be able to take a year off and travel the world, my destinations limited only by my own imagination and the funds that I was given. Anyone who has met and known Dr. Pechet will know what a wonderfully generous and truly fascinating man he is. I am fortunate to have known him and to be the very unworthy recepient of his generous gift.

After the end of my Junior year I spent the balance of 2001 working at Microsoft in Seattle, an experience that I neither regret nor want to repeat. I left for Europe in the middle of January and spent almost 5 months traveling, covering a lot of ground and having amazing experiences everywhere. After spending a month at home decompressing I spent the summer exploring the United States along forgotten two-lane US highways.

Unfortunately I did a poor job of documenting these experiences, but what I do have in the form of writings and pictures is accessible from the links to the left. I did keep a diary this summer, but it is not in digital form and I have no interest in typing it up, so those memories will be kept largely private for now.

I'm definitely bitten by the travel bug though. I'm hoping to visit Croatia over spring break with my friend Tim and find a job overseas for next year. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
