Recently, a serial concatenation coding scheme was proposed to approach the capacity of a partial response trellis. The design of the inner trellis code, called a matched information rate code, relies on the first-order statistics of the suboptimal discrete input process. In this paper, we examine the second order statistics of the matched information rate sequence.
